Playing with the AI Game Master

Let an AI run your table — it narrates scenes, voices NPCs, rolls dice, and remembers the story.

Waypoint ProUpdated June 18, 2026

The AI Game Master lets a group start a campaign and play right away — no one has to prep or run the table. It narrates scenes, voices NPCs, adjudicates the rules, rolls dice, and keeps a running memory of your story.

Getting started

  1. Pick AI GM at creation

When you create a campaign, choose AI Game Master. You can give it a persona (tone/style) to taste.
  2. Describe what you do

Play unfolds in the campaign chat. Type what your character does in plain language — “I push open the tavern door and look around.”
  3. Let it resolve

The GM narrates the outcome, rolls when chance is involved (you'll see the dice), and looks up creature stats as needed.

Responses are AI-generated

The AI GM is creative but imperfect — it can get a rule or detail wrong. Treat it as a helpful storyteller, and a human can always take the reins.

A human can take over anytime

The campaign's GM can switch from the AI back to a human GM from the campaign hub — useful for a big set-piece or to course-correct.

Safety & limits

  • Age-appropriate — when a minor is at the table, the GM keeps content strictly PG, with an extra safety screen on its replies.
  • Budget cap — each campaign has an AI usage cap so costs stay predictable.
  • Pro — the AI GM is part of Waypoint Pro.
